PACIFIC RIM COUNCIL ON URBAN DEVELOPMENT

    MISSION AND HISTORY

The Pacific Rim Council on Urban Development (PRCUD) is an international organization, encompassing the academic, private and public sectors established to enhance the development of linkages between cities in the Pacific Rim region. Founded in 1989 by a small group of professionals, the PRCUD promotes better understanding of cities, and encourages the achievement of excellence in urban development, planning and management to improve the economic performance and sustainability of cities. As of 1999, seventeen City Chapters have been established.
    PRCUD MEMBERSHIP AND BENEFITS

PRCUD seeks to maintain the highest standards in its aim to provide an effective forum for professional global dialogue To that end, PRCUD membership is highly selective and only includes high-caliber professionals who seek to interact on a collegial basis with their counterparts in the private, public and academic sectors in cities around the Pacific Rim. The only way to become a member is to be nominated by a Council member in good standing and then have the nomination be voted on at the annual meeting.

Each year PRCUD holds an Annual Forum and Professional Visits. The Forum and the Visits are geared to a smaller group of highly qualified experts, who are also PRCUD Council members, with an emphasis on group interaction and dialogue between Council members and the host city's counterparts. The Visits culminate each year in a comprehensive PRCUD Annual Report, that is disseminated to all PRCUD members, and provides a summary of Council members' assessment of the development constraints and opportunities of the host city, based on three days of intensive meetings and site visits.

PRCUD Members are kept up-to-date on current events as well as issues of interest by News Memos periodically published by the Secretariat. These News Memos also include Member Profiles highlighting individuals' activities so as to facilitate the professional and personal dialogue and give members a sense of what everyone else is doing.
