Biography of Alain Dumort

 Photo of Alain Dumort Since 1996, Alain Dumort has headed the "New technologies in education and training" division, reporting to the Director general on Education, Training and Youth at the European Commission. His group is involved in the preparation and implementation of strategy and policy documents on the use of new media for learning as well as as well as the development of ICT literacy and skills through sustainable public-private partnerships.

Alain Dumort is also responsible for the organisation of the Netd@ys Europe initiative which in the last two years has become the world's largest raising-awareness campaign on the use of new media for lifelong learning and discovery. Alain joined the EC- DG XIII "Telecommunications, the information market and exploitation of research" group in October 1990 as the adviser to the Director General on economics and strategic affairs. He contributed to the preparation and follow-up of G-7 and OECD ministerial conferences on the information society. He has also specialized in the management and evaluation of research programmea and energy/environment projects within the EC as well as the Grenoble and Brussels universities.

Alain is the Fellow from the European Institutions for the School of International Relations at the University of Southern California for the academic year 1999-2000.
