I am an assistant professor in the Computer Science Department at the University of Southern California. Previously I spent one year at Microsoft Research, NYC as a postdoctoral researcher. I completed my PhD in the Computer Science Department at Princeton University, where I was fortunate enough to be advised by Rob Schapire and also to work closely with Elad Hazan. I received my bachelor degree at Peking University working with Professor Zhen Xiao.

My research interest is in theoretical and applied machine learning, with a focus on

  • online learning, especially on adaptive and robust regret minimization algorithms;
  • advanced boosting algorithms;
  • fast and scalable optimization methods;
  • game theory and its connection to machine learning.

I am teaching CSCI 699: Introduction to Online Learning in Fall 2017.
