The word "hacker" has many different meanings in the

eye of the public and the media, here's a dictionary definition,

hack, hak, v.t. to cut with

rough blows: to chop or mangle: to notch: to kick.-n a gash: a chap in

In the eye of the public, hackers are 'geeks', teenagers with

computers, who spend all their time 'tinkering' or playing useless computer

games and the like, and sometimes causing mischief or harm to others through

credit-card fraud, denial of service attacks to ISP's, not discounting

the attacks on websites such as this one.

In the eye of the media, hackers are 'geeks with ego's', who

always get busted and the like for hacking into military or commercial

systems and stealing information that is prized, or who get busted for

'phreaking' or 'carding'.

In the eye of the hacker, we are a group of individuals who

know more, we learn about systems through trying to break them, that's

why security professionals have the highly paid jobs that they enjoy. We

(the hackers) learn about systems and find security loopholes that can

be used to gain super-user access to such systems, so we can later use

such loopholes to '0wn' the system and cause trouble or harm to others

who prize the information held within such systems.

Hackers learn things very quickly, your fate, in some waysz,

Companies and agencies, including the Government and Military,

use the internet, as it helps them to communicate alot more efficiently

with each other, it may take days to send a letter by mail overseas, when

it takes a matter of seconds to send e-mail to a system anywhere in the

world. In efforts to become more efficient, and make things quicker, Companies,

such as Intel and Boeing, keep complex reports, and sometimes blueprints

or products on internet accessible systems, this information is for use

only by personnel who know the correct logins and passes, but if someone

with some skills like ours wanted to gain access to such information, then

we would then have a whole set of blueprints and reports for say, the next

Intel chip architecture, this information would be extremely valuable to

rival companies, such as Cryrix or AMD, and they would probably pay good

money for such information, after all, information (and therefore knowledge)

is power.

Thats how it works, hackers play games, and companies try to

become more efficient, but now they want laws to keep the internet under

some sort of 'control', which will never happen, hackers built the net,

hackers can break it, just live with us and what we do, we have ethics

(sometimes), we are only human, we are only on a quest for information,

and therefore power.

We want amnesty for hackers, we didn't mean to break your, I

mean OUR internet.

The internet was built by hackers, therefore any information

on the internet should be free, but the public demand privacy, its all

one big viscious circle, hackers want information, and therefore power,

Governments want national security and intergrity, and the Public want

peace of mind, but the hackers are unstoppable, there will be more, we

are all alike.
