EVE/ESP
What
IS ESP?
- Extreme Ultraviolet SpectroPhotometer
- Low spectral resolution (5nm) / high photometric precision
/ high stability spectrometer. i.e. the measurement of EUV
flux is very stable over time.
- OPTICS
- Transmission grating wavelength dispersive element low
contamination risk surface.
- High stability mounted metal film filters.
- DETECTORS
- High stability photodiode detectors.
- Current mode operation.
- Voltage to frequency-counter digitization.
- All flight-proven component design (SOHO-SEM, CHANDRA,TIMED-SEE
etc).
Why
ESP?
- Continue the EUV data set provided by SOHO/CELIAS/SEM,TIMED-SEE
- Large user community for EUV products:
- Space weather. Earth’s atmosphere modeling.
- Planetary atmospheres.
- Solar physics.
- Spacecraft / astronaut operations.
- Provide a stable, independent reference for the EVE-MEGS
spectrometers
