Left to right: Alex, Purnim, Mikhail, Sergey, Ian, David, Fadel, Sean Introduction Our group's research focuses on the molecular structure and dynamics of surfaces and condensed phase interfaces. Two complementary aspects of our research program are (1) development of new surface-selective laser spectroscopy techniques and (2) application of these techniques to study molecular structure (e.g., conformation), organization (orientation, packing, self-assembly), and dynamics of molecular motions in the condensed phase. We are interested in systems important in life sciences, material science, solar energy (photovoltaics), nano- and bio-technology. Read more about our research projects...

News SFG line shapes paper A detailed treatment of the spectral line shapes in BB-SFG (broad-band sum frequency generation) spectroscopy has appeared in J. Chem. Phys. 2010; 132, 234503. In particular, the paper deals with the effects of the time delay between the IR and visible pulses on the obtained line shape.
"Seedling" funding under the USC CEN (Center for Energy Nanoscience) Thanks to Sean's and Purnim's preliminary results on SFG spectroscopy of OPV (organic photovoltaics) films, our group has been selected for funding under the USC Center for Energy Nanoscience, an EFRC (Energy Frontiers Research Center) funded by DOE. More studies under way...!
Recent Presentations 1/21/2011 Sergey gave a talk at the WSA (Western Spectroscopy Association) Meeting in Asilomar, CA on our work on the spectroscopy of methylated Si(111) surface and azobenzene SAMs. 12/18/2010 Alex gave a talk at the Pacifichem in Honolulu, HI, on the isotopic dilution HD-SFG spectroscopy of the air/water interface.
SciTopics article about SFG A brief review of the SFG (sum frequency generation) spectroscopy by Alex can be found on SciTopics.
Upcoming Presentations David, Misha, Fadel, and Sean are presenting their work at the upcoming ACS meeting in Anaheim, CA, March 26-30, 2011.
